AMRC's response to new partnership between the Royal Free and DeepMind

Published: 22 November 2016

Commenting on the announcement of new partnership between the Royal Free and DeepMind, Aisling Burnand, Chief Executive of AMRC (Association of Medical Research Charities) said:

“Technology in health can transform the care provided by the NHS and help to advance medical research. Linking up health data across the NHS and using data more effectively has huge potential for patients and ability of healthcare staff to care for us. The new partnership announced today between Deepmind and the Royal Free is an exciting step in realising the potential of health data and technology.

The use of health information for care or medical research has to be built on trust and the appropriate safeguards must ensure data is secure and privacy protected. We welcome steps taken by Deepmind and the Royal Free to address these concerns; and we look forward to seeing the impact of the partnership on patient care and outcomes in the coming years.”
